Back in 2004, several patients with polycythaemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythaemia (ET) began to do research online about their disorders. They discovered that what little information was available online was either frustratingly out-of-date, incorrect, or downright frightening. They felt that people with MPDs deserved better.
These patients joined together with MPD specialist nurses and haematologists at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Their goal: to create a place where people with MPDs could meet each other and discover they were not alone - a place where people could find information that was accurate and empowering.
Today MPD Support is a registered UK charity under the auspices of Guys and St Thomas’ Charity. Our charity number is 251983-30. We have members across the UK and in many other countries throughout the world. We offer this website, a newsletter for people with MPDs, a patients’ forum based in London and a Peer Support programme. We are raising money to fund research towards a cure. Most of all we offer hope to everyone who has a myeloproliferative disorder. Please join MPD Support to help or to learn more.
