How to obtain your MPD medications free of charge
Good news for people with MPDs: MPDs have been reclassified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as MPNs or "myeloproliferative neoplasms". This is an important change because it allows patients in the UK to obtain their medication free of charge.
Who is eligible?
Anyone with an MPD in the UK. This includes people with ET (essential thrombocythaemia) PV or PRV (polycythaemia vera), MF (myelofibrosis) and all other MPDs.
What you will need:
You will need an exemption certificate (FP92A England, HC11B Northern Ireland and EC92A Scotland - clearly marked 1 January 2009) from your doctor's surgery. You need to fill it in and your doctor (or an authorised member of the practice staff) or your haematologist will sign to confirm the information you've given is correct. You will then be sent a Medical Exemption Certificate.
