The prognosis depends to a large extent upon the amount of tissue damage already present. If tissue damage is bad, especially to the heart, then the problems and outlook are linked most strongly to this. Your haematologist (blood diseases doctor) and perhaps your cardiologist (heart doctor) will have more information for you.
If there is either no tissue damage, or very little damage, then most problems are likely to comes from the HE or treatment for it. In a small proportion of patients with HE a form of acute leukemia may develop.
